What quantum depth version of IM are you using? Is it 32-bit (Q32)

convert -list configure

will tell you. On my system, it says near the top in the CONIFIGURE section:

--with-quantum-depth=16

does yours say:

--with-quantum-depth=32


Have you tried adding -depth 8 to your command line?

What is your current command line?
