Take a look at the task manager and look at the paging/vm statistics.
Is the system paging?

Local disks or networked?
Given your processor, I'm wondering if there's something like excess
paging, slow disk access (i.e., over the network), or other that's
slowing it down.
Are your timing statistics true for a variety of files? I just used a
random pdf that I had. I tried another file about 3M and 20 pages; it
took 1:50 elapsed. So, perhaps you just have complex files?
