[magick-users] shared libraries

When I try to run the program I built on linux that requires ImageMagick, I get this error:

error while loading shared libraries: libMagick.so.6: cannot 
open shared object file: No such file or directory

The file libMagick.so.6 is on my disk but I'm not sure it is where it needs to be.  Where should this file be?  Are there environment variables that must point to this file?  Thanks in advance for your help.
