[magick-users] ImageMagick converting 8 bit images to 16 bit

Hi folks,

I have a set of 8 bit greyscale images I need to process with IM..
The problem is that when I do process them, I get 8 bit images as output..
The operation I am currently using are based on the "convert" utility and
its various flags (in my case I am using "convolve" and "equalize" )

Why is IM converting to 16 bit ? Whys does it leave the images as they are
in 8 bit?

Do I have to reinstall IM with some special options for 8 bit processing?

Any command options to convert which will stop it from converting pixel data
size?

Any suggestions?
