Thanks for your hint. I use Visual Studio 6.

Meanwhile I removed the Windows distribution I found previously, got 
the latest sources and succeeded in building everything from source.

P.S. I'm sorry I'm not even sure about the distribution version I had. 
Source version 6.3.5-9 is fine for me :)
