| Thanks for your wonderful help in this. It seems that a lot of astronomical
| image processing packages have this capability built in to one degree or
| another. (color/gamma aligning varies greatly though) Two that I have found
| that seem promising are Registax4 and Stellar Magic. There are some
| alternatives such as Astroart but this list is by no means comprehensive.
| This would make sense for montaging planet surfaces and the like. Some of
| the programs work by creating reference points in the images and using the
| mouse wheel to perform the flicker compare. As to color/gamma alignment and
| autoblend/autoalign, I think the latest version of Photoshop has this
| functionality in droves. Check out some of their flash demonstrations of
| these features and you will be quite amazed. However, all this can be
| approximated by using the various alternatives described here.
Thanks. when I get time I will take a look.
I am right now working on adding least squares fitting of distortion
functions to more than the minimim number of control points for a
distorted image, into IM. This will be useful for image registration
routines and more general image warping rouintes added in the future.
Are these programs windows or linux? Never mind I'll take a look.
