[magick-users] MagickWand for PHP: how to use a gradient fill?

I'm using ImageMagick on a PHP server to dynamically add text to an image.
I'd like to be able to define a gradient to use as the fill for the text.
I'm pretty certain that I'll be using DrawSetFillPatternURL, but how do I
create the pattern to which the URL refers?

I'd welcome examples in MagickWand or PECL Imagick (I have both installed,
and the syntax is pretty well interchangeable).
