[magick-users] HP Core Duo freezeup

I have a HP Compaq dc7700p Convertible with Intel Core Duo CPU - 6400 @
2.13Ghz. 1.98Gb ram.

I am running convert from the command line for a simple "convert $file.jpg
$file.png" sequence on many hundreds of files.

The files are a varied selection of RGB JPGs, filesizes from 58k to 11Mb.

At unpredictable intervals, and on different files, convert hangs. When it
does so, it can hang for anything from a few seconds to a couple of minutes.

An example: 100_1455.jpg is 11Mb.

Convert 100_1455.jpg 100_1455.png takes only about 2 seconds to run
normally.

I can repeat the command line many times and obtain the same 2 second
runtime, but then at no predictable interval the process will hang and take
60-90 seconds.

I have run a test pattern repeatedly using the same 20 images in a batch
file, measuring the processing time and recording the results and can
establish no pattern related to filesize.

I have modified/restore some system optimisation settings but with no
differing result.

My only conclusion is that convert is having a problem with this processor.

Can anybody point me to a resolution?

Mike
