Hi Justin,
Maybe a solution is to use Illustrator as a kind of server application and
integrate it in a workflow. It is possible to script Adobe Illustrator CS2
(I think it was with JAVAscript).
I also think that it's possible to check if an image is valid vector art
with Illustrator-scripting.
