Be that as it may, I don't think it is (unlikely, I mean).  IM handles
everything in its own format (I forget what it is, but it ain't TIFF) and
is, if I recall correctly, unapologetically resource-intensive.  It's
been long enough since I was really active here to 1) remember details
about this aspect of it (though I think that there is a RAM throttling
mechanism, though the end result is simply that the process takes longer)
or 2) know if things have changed (doubtful, I'd say), but IM can and
will -- and for good reason -- use lots of memory if given the opportunity.
