ImageMagick can use the Ghostscript development libraries if they are found at configure time otherwise it will use the gs program from the command-line. If you can upgrade your Ghostscript from 7.07 to the latest GPL of 8.15, do so. 8.15 can process more advanced PDF and PS Level II images.
