The digest.rdf file in the thumbnails folder does not seem to work.
No need to fix: I'll include a simple README.html in the next update. (It's already written, but I want to push the changes all at once.)

Cristy: I've fixed a few things with the bank (including something having to do with privacy), including adding a README.html to the thumbnails folder. As before, http://web.cs.laurentian.ca/nrobidoux/m ... x840images contains a zip archive with everything in the folder (except the zip archive itself, of course). I figure it's simpler to just upload everything again.
I don't expect more changes until I can add the publication details of my student's related thesis.
With many thanks.

Cristy: Apologies: One of the contributors has pointed out that some of the EXIF data is way too verbose. Will fix and repost.

Cristy: I think I completely cleaned up the .txt files and README now. So, the bank is ready for "re-download". (Sorry for the double trouble.)

Suggestion:

Start from scratch:

Download http://web.cs.laurentian.ca/nrobidoux/m ... images.zip
unzip 840x840images.zip
mv 840x840images.zip 840x840images/
(maybe change permissions/whatever)
Should work out of the box. And there is a README.html which works well in the thumbnails folder. You should not have to add a digest.rdf (but of course, you can if it matters to you).

Updated to the latest incarnation. See http://www.imagemagick.org/download/image-bank.

magick: Thank you.

Could you please put the zip back in the folder? (For one-click, compressed download.)
If you don't feel like uploading from my server again:

Code: Select all

cd .../download
zip -r 840x840images.zip image-bank
mv 840x840images.zip image-bank/
cd image-bank
chmod a+r 840x840images.zip
(I'm sure you know all this, and some of the steps may be superfluous, but sometimes explaining a desired action with code is easier than with words.)

We removed the Zip file because its redundant and consumes a lot of space. ImageMagick archives are mirrored at many places around the world and we're trying to be good citizen by keeping the footprint as low as possible. Choose one, an inclusive Zip file or individual TIFF / TXT files?

magick: Makes sense.

Keep as is, but please replace the top level README by the just updated http://web.cs.laurentian.ca/nrobidoux/m ... ges/README. I've removed every reference to a zip version.

Thank you.

magick: I screwed up the foreign accents in the names of contributors in README.html.

Could you please replace the content of image-bank/thumbnails/README.html by the following?

Code: Select all

<head>
<TITLE>840x840images test image bank: thumbnails</TITLE>

Updated as requested. We can continue to maintain the image-bank folder for you but we can also give you an account and you can maintain it yourself. Your choice.

magick: One contributor just found a factual mistake, and it would not surprise me if more corrections/tweaks are requested, so it would appear to me that giving me an account and letting maintain the thing myself would reduce the hassle factor. I understand that I need to be moderate in my disk space use (no zip) and check with you before making substantial changes (which I don't expect, at least not any time soon).

magick: Files called digest.rdf have shown up in the directory tree of image-bank. I carelessly removed them, figuring that they were automatically generated and that they seem to be IM specific, given that I changed the directory structure. Should I simply not touch them from now on? (Apologies if I broke something.)

Users expect a message digest associated with a file to ensure they have not been altered before they download them. We typically get complaints if the message digest is not available. The digest.rdf file included a message digest for each file in the folder.
