"Matte" under Paint Attributes Not Working

One of the features at IM that is used the most by imagers is the "matte" feature under Paint Attributes. Irreplacable for webtv users on IM that wish to make something on an image or graphic transparent.
As of yesterday the feature is non-functioning.
Any input image or graphic does not execute the matte feature, after appropriate values have been entered. The graphic or image defaults back to its original form.
If the powers that may be, could kindly take a look and perhaps
restore this feature, alot of webtv people would be very grateful.
