Creating a non-transparent thumbnail from a transparent GIF

Use this command to resize your image:
  • convert C:\tiscali.gif +matte -thumbnail 40x40 C:\tiscali_sm.gif

If you want a specifc color for the background use

   convert C:\tiscali.gif  -background white -flatten \
              -thumbnail 40x40 C:\tiscali_sm.gif
WARNING: -flatten will not work with GIF animations as is. But then
Neither will +matte
