PSD format specification

I just noticed that Adobe has published the PSD file specification openly:

http://www.adobe.com/devnet-apps/photos ... matashtml/

I am not a programmer myself, but seem to recall that this was not offered by them freely in the past, and that this document could prove helpful?

Lab colorspace characteristics

Is the Lab in ImageMagick D50 with 2-degree standard observer?

Thanks!

Re: Histograms, MPRs, and Memory Management

Oddly enough, not using MPR doesn't significantly change the memory used or the time the process takes! And it appears to take more CPU.

I think my best bet here is to try to get our of 16-bit. Is there a way to use 8-bit calculations within a 16-bit IM build?

Thanks!

Re: Histograms, MPRs, and Memory Management

Hi, and thank you for your time! Yes, this appears to limit the resources used. In trying the values you suggested, it's taking a very long time and hasn't finished yet on a 5MB source file, but I assume your values were meant to be illustrative of what can be done and not literally to be used. Conv...

Histograms, MPRs, and Memory Management

Hi all, I've started a new topic in continuing my explorations of histograms introduced in a recent thread, as my concern now is is optimization and broader questions of memory management. I am generating histograms with the code below, piping the image through RAM: convert input_file.jpg -separate ...

Re: Histograms in Photoshop CS6 vs. IM

Yes! I came upon the same result and came to post it when I saw yours. The only thing is a type. I believe you intended to write convert PhotoBoothXmas_0109.JPG -separate -append -define histogram:unique-colors=false histogram:hist6.png with a "-" before append, yes? That is indeed the RGB...

Re: Histograms in Photoshop CS6 vs. IM

I don't use Photoshop often nor have access to test at the moment, but I do have two ideas. First, Photoshop uses an approximation for generating image statistics. In a GUI environment where the histogram window may always be showing, this is a practical necessity for processor load. This approxima...

Re: Histograms in Photoshop CS6 vs. IM

What you've shown looks very similar to the "Luminosity" histogram when you are in RGB mode (not converting to Grayscale) in CS6 (yet again, PS crops the top off). It also does look like the composite histogram in PS after converting to Grayscale. The "RGB" composite histogram lo...

I understand! I did however provide the PS histograms, in case you are curious about what they are displaying.

Thanks again!

Re: Histograms in Photoshop CS6 vs. IM

1. Note that "-separate" is a greyscale operation (it separates a colour image into 3 greyscale images). It gives different results in 6.8.4 and 6.8.5. I generally suggest that people who use greyscale upgrade to 6.8.5. 2. Your "-modulate 0,100,0" is very different to Fred's sug...

snibgo wrote:Ah, that's true. It was introduced for 6.8.5.
Does this mean that I must upgrade to =>6.8.5 in order to test your proposed code using the -grayscale switch?

Thanks again,

Re: Histograms in Photoshop CS6 vs. IM

I'm very appreciative of your help! I am not converting the image to grayscale. I was following the counsel and copying the code from here: http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/files/#histogram starting "On the other hand a better 'global' histogram can be generated by simply separating all the col...

Histograms in Photoshop CS6 vs. IM

First, thanks so much to all the developers and community! IM is astounding, and your efforts are very sincerely appreciated. I'm investigating the histogram displays in Photoshop CS6 (13.0.4) and comparing them with IM 6.8.0-2. Wow, PS is doing some unusual things! First, for the Colors option, Ado...

Bull!

At http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/color_basics/#intro the statement is made that "...some animals see movement far better than any specific color (such as a bull, who contrary to popular beliaf can not see red, only black and white)..." This is not entirely true. Bull vision is dichromat...
