Re: IM equivalent of GIMP - Levels - Output

Thanks Fred, I thought I somehow had to extrapolate the information from an image I had already modified and somehow create a HALD table from that. But you point out that it is so simple. Again, my brain just doesn't see the obvious any more. I don't always use such a high saturation, but ofen I do ...

Re: IM equivalent of GIMP - Levels - Output

Thanks Fred and Alan (I think), I took that bit of information and am reading the info Anthony has posted about HALD, but not understanding it at all. One of the joys of chronic illness is the toll it takes on what used to be mental ability :-) But I will see if I can understand it. Until then, the ...

Re: IM equivalent of GIMP - Levels - Output

Ok, thanks everyone. I think I found a way to fix the shadow. In GIMP, levels and sigmoidal curves are able to be adjusted separately, as in fact they can in IM. However, for a particular reason in GIMP I only adjust the left (black) side of the level graph from 0 to 10, but do not adjust the right ...

Re: IM equivalent of GIMP - Levels - Output

The numbers used for the S-curve were trial and error until the result in IM matched as close as possible the curve I use for quick fixes in GIMP, which, as someone suggested, is also not quite symetrical. I have tried fine tuning the numbers further on the assumption that it is one end of the curve...

Re: IM equivalent of GIMP - Levels - Output

Thanks, Here's an example of what I am playing with. I deliberately picked a photo where the camera has left the image all muddy on a beautiful day here. I added far too much saturation in the sky (for a reason) and pulled the sand and sea closer to what they really are. The images don;t match exact...

Re: IM equivalent of GIMP - Levels - Output

Thanks Fred, I generally use IM to strip ICC profiles before I use either GIMP or IM for processing. I suppose I should instead use IM to strip any ICC profile, then assign something simple like sRBG. However I often work in LAB or HSL/HSB so I generally just strip any existing profile. Your reply r...

Re: IM equivalent of GIMP - Levels - Output

Thanks. That's a clear description. As far as colours go I have IM producing almost exactly the output I get from GIMP, except that with GIMP the detail is sharper and things like the folds on a shirt cast sharper shadows. No amount of messing with IM in a simple way seems to overcome that, yet in G...

Re: IM equivalent of GIMP - Levels - Output

Thank you, This all started because I was looking for a simple way to use GIMP from the command line to execute a series of operations. A google search brought me to IM instead, which took me to Fred's ImageMagick scripts and a lot of reading, then to the IM site and Anthony's tutorials and examples...

Re: IM equivalent of GIMP - Levels - Output

Thanks again to both Fred and snibgo. I've had a look at snibgo's scripts for the first time and like Fred's, some are fascinating. Unfortunately I remember very little about Windows or even MS Dos (haven't had MS or Mac since 1998) so for the moment I am stuck with writing my own little scripts and...

Re: IM equivalent of GIMP - Levels - Output

Thank you Fred, I have looked at your scripts often, but after some serious injuries and a brain infection I no longer think quite the way I did when I was programming, which I suppose started in the early 70's. So now I do a lot of 'read, test, modify, write'. I avoid using your scripts because som...

Re: IM equivalent of GIMP - Levels - Output

Thanks snibgo, I often wonder why I should need to adjust both input output levels, as well as applying a sigmoidal curve, but I need to apply this correction across a fairly wide selection of images and the settings I use work pretty well except with really bad images. I'm still looking for detaile...

Re: Is it possible to print a list of all fonts installed?

Thanks snibgo, I'll see if I can use some of that to create a shell script. It was pulling the second token to create a loop I was having trouble with. What I want to achieve in the end is the same thing as I can do using the Linux Font manager. A file I can view on screen or print at my option. I a...

IM equivalent of GIMP - Levels - Output

In GIMP > Colors > Levels there are options to adjust: Input Levels 0 Gamma 255 Output Levels 0 255 For a repetitive GIMP task I need to adjust: Color > Saturation > 25 Color > Curves > Sigmoidal Colour > Levels > Input Levels 10 Gamma 1.5 255 Output Levels 20 235 I have managed to create a script, ...

Re: Is it possible to print a list of all fonts installed?

Thanks Fred, I missed that script somehow when I was searching and for some reason I could not get my own efforts to loop. I will try Anthony's script and probably use both methods. It took me a while to realise I could print the results of the Linux Font Manager (because there is no menu). I only f...

Re: Is it possible to print a list of all fonts installed?

I did a lot of searching on this looking for a way to tell IM to print a sample of each font on my Linux system. I could not find an answer anywhere. It is slimple to make IM list all available fonts, and it is possible to use -convert to print each font individually. It does not seem simple or even...
